If you live in a hot or humid environment, be that because of season, climate, location in the building, or ventilation–you know about the presence and annoyance of mold. If you’re also allergic, you really understand. But even if you don’t think you are exhibiting symptoms of mold and mildew, it may be taking a toll on your life.
If you’ve discovered mold and mildew, it doesn’t mean you need to spray and scrub bleach and chemicals up and down your walls. This article provides a few natural solutions. First here are a few lifestyle changes and checks to integrate into your daily life.
Use a dehumidifier to dry out damp locations in your home, as much as possible, even if you don’t spend a lot of time there.
- Keep your home in shape. Make sure your plumbing is working and not leaking. Patch holes in your roof promptly.
- Clean up spills right away. This seems obvious, but do it.
- Check your shower curtains. Ensure that they do not let water get out and trickle down the tub to the floor and eventually into the floorboards.
If you’ve taken all of these precautions, but are still battling mold and mildew, it may be time for another natural method. You can use tea tree essential oil. It is an expensive oil, yes, but it is an incredibly effective fungicide and has been said to work on most mold families. All you need are two teaspoons of tea tree oil mixed with 2 cups of water in a spray bottle. Spray all over the moldy areas and let it sit.
